Dr Hugh Xuechen Liu is a Research Associate in the Perrett Laver Hong Kong office.

Hugh has a multi-disciplined academic experience. He obtained a PhD in Creative Media from the City University of Hong Kong in 2022. He also holds a MA in Journalism and Communication, a BA in Communication and credits toward a BA in Geophysics from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). His research covers topics related to emerging technologies, including generative AI, computational creativity, blockchain, video game design, science communication and STEM education.

Before joining Perrett Laver, Hugh worked as a postdoc at the City University of Hong Kong. During his postgraduate time at USTC, he was one of the founding members of the New Media Institute at the Institute of Advanced Technology, USTC.

Hugh is now a Council Member of the Hong Kong New Emerging Technology Education Association (HKNETEA).

Hugh is fluent in English and Mandarin. He continues to improve his Japanese and Cantonese.
