Sherborne announce the appointment of next Headmaster 3 Feb 2015

The Governors of Sherborne School are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Dominic Luckett as the next Headmaster.  Following a rigorous selection process, Dr Luckett was appointed from an exceptionally strong field of candidates and will succeed Mr Ralph Barlow from January 2016.

Dr Luckett was educated at the University of Leicester, where he obtained a first class honours degree in History, and at Magdalen College, Oxford, where he completed his doctorate on Henry VII. He then taught for eleven years at Harrow School, where he was Head of History and an assistant housemaster, before moving to Worth School as Deputy Head.  Since 2007, he has been Headmaster of Mill Hill, an HMC coeducational day and boarding school in north London, and Chief Executive of the Mill Hill School Foundation comprising the senior, prep, pre-prep and international schools.  He has published various articles on early Tudor history, is an inspector with the Independent Schools’ Inspectorate and a member of the Council of the University of Leicester, the university’s governing body.  His interests include paragliding, skiing and hill-walking.

Chair of Governors, Reverend Gordon Parry said: “We were impressed by Dominic’s instinctive understanding of the character and ethos of Sherborne, his depth of experience and strength of vision.  His track record of exceptionally successful headship at Mill Hill gives us great confidence in Sherborne’s future.  We are very much looking forward to working with Dominic and welcoming him, his wife Cara and their two young daughters when they join us next year.

Dr Luckett commented: “No one who visits Sherborne could fail to be uplifted by the extraordinary strength of the community, the breadth and depth of opportunity and the commitment from both boys and staff to learning in its widest sense.  I am enormously proud to have been appointed Headmaster and am looking forward to working with colleagues in forging the next chapter in the history of Sherborne School
