Repton appoints new Head 15 Apr 2015

The Governors of Repton have appointed Mr Alastair Land to be its 35th Headmaster.

Currently Deputy Head Master at Harrow School, Mr Land will take up his new post in April 2016 and says he is looking forward to it.

Educated at Manchester Grammar School, Mr Land gained a First Class honours degree in Natural Sciences at Trinity College, Cambridge from where he went on to teach Biology at Eton College. He was also Commanding Officer of the CCF there.

After almost a decade at Eton, he moved to become Master in College and Senior Housemaster at Winchester College before accepting his current post at Harrow in 2012.

Throughout his career Alastair Land has maintained an active role in the CCF as well as taking on a range of other extra-curricular activities - including directing house plays, organising and competing in endurance challenges and chairing an adventurous training committee.

His wife Madeleine is also a teacher and is currently Head of Mathematics at North London Collegiate School.  The couple have a three-year-old son, Maurice.

Commenting on his new appointment, he says: “Repton is a wonderful school, warm and nurturing, and full of aspiration. It is these qualities of far-sighted growth, allied with personal care of the pupils which make me honoured to be Repton’s next Headmaster.

“I am full of admiration for Repton’s achievements in the classroom, in the boarding houses, and in the vast array of extra-curricular pursuits offered to the pupils. I look forward to working with, and living amongst, new colleagues.

“Madeleine, Maurice and I are full of excitement at the prospect of building our family life together in Derbyshire; it is a beautiful county.

“Beyond the classroom and study I have strong personal interests in all adventurous pursuits, sport and the CCF and I look forward to setting those, when time permits, in the Derbyshire context.”

In announcing the appointment, Chairman of the Governors, Sir Henry Every Bt. DL, says: “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Alastair Land as our next Headmaster. He shares the ethos and values that are so important to Repton and we are confident he and his family will receive a very warm welcome from parents, staff and pupils.”
