New Non-Executive Director appointed to Cambridge University Hospitals 20 May 2014

His experience in business and bio-technology, coupled with his well-established links within Cambridge, will be a significant support to the Trust in realising its ambition as a global healthcare leader.’   Dr Richards said: “Cambridge University Hospitals is truly important to the patients and people of Cambridge and is a central component of both the local economy and the world-class life-science cluster in our region. Tremendous advances in medical sciences and innovations in healthcare provide the prospect of real and sustained benefits to patients. CUH has the potential to deliver these benefits to patients by being at the forefront of innovation and research whilst combining these with the compassionate ethos that is being championed by its leadership team. I look forward to helping that team with whatever contributions I can make in delivering better healthcare through our NHS.”   Andy is currently Chairman of Ixico plc, Altacor, Novacta Abcodia and Cambridge Temperature Concepts and is a Director of Arecor, Psychology On-line, Cancer Research Technology (commercial arm of CR-UK) and Babraham Bioscience Technology.   His early career spanned positions with ICI (now AstraZeneca) and PA Technology, and he was a founder and executive director of Chiroscience. Since 1999 he has founded and invested in new mainly Cambridge-based healthcare companies, with more than 20 innovative ventures over the last 14 years. These include companies such as Vectura, Arakis, Cambridge Biotechnology Ltd and Geneservice. Andy is also a founder member of the Cambridge Angels.
