LSE is delighted to announce that Dr Andrew Young has been appointed as the School’s first Chief Operating Officer (COO). He will report to the Director of the School and become a member of the Director’s Management Team.
The role of COO has been created to oversee and improve the integration of LSE’s non-academic services. Dr Young will be directly responsible for key professional service divisions, including Estates, HR, Information Management & Technology, Residences and Catering. He will also convene a Service Leaders’ Forum and work to achieve greater shared planning and productivity across all of LSE’s non-academic administration areas.
Dr Young joins LSE from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine where he has held the position of COO since December 2012, and the Chair of the London Universities Purchasing Consortium board. This builds on extensive HE management experience, including heading the faculty support team under the Faculty Pro-Vice Chancellor at Newcastle University. His career started with a PhD in Zoology at Newcastle, with his moving into academic administration by way of organisational support to laboratory science.

Dr Young will start work at LSE on 18 January and is already engaged in meeting leaders of the LSE service divisions.
