Mary-Clare Startin (Alb & H 89) takes up leadership role at prestigious Rome school

The Haileybury Society is delighted to learn that Mary-Clare Startin (Alb & H 89) has been appointed Vice Principal & Head of Senior School at the prestigious St. George’s British International School in Rome.

Mary-Clare, daughter of Jim Pullen (Former staff 1975-2001), took up her new position in January 2022, having been previously the first female Head of Berkhamsted School for Boys from 2018-21, having already served there as Deputy Head (Teaching and Innovation) from 2017-18 and before that as Head of Sixth Form for four years.

Mary-Clare, having taken her PGCE at Cambridge and studied later for an MA in Educational Leadership and Management, taught for sixteen years at a number of schools at different management levels before joining Berkhamsted.

Her focus at St George’s is to ensure not only that pupils accrue the skills, attitudes and qualifications to prepare them for the world beyond school but also, post school, to seek to put their skills, talents and opportunities to work for the good of others as well as themselves. An ethos every Haileyburian, surely, would understand.

The Haileybury Society sends its warmest congratulations to Mary-Clare on her latest appointment and wish her every success in the coming years.
