Lyndall Stein appointed new Chair of the Board of Trustees of CARE International UK

Lyndall Stein has been appointed Chair of the Board of Trustees of CARE International UK. She will take up her post from 1 August 2022.

Lyndall will be succeeding Carolyn Clarke who stepped down in 2021 after serving her term as Chair.

Lyndall Stein said:

“I am honoured to have been selected to be Chair of Care International UK and to work with them on the critical issues they are dedicated to changing for the better –the challenges faced by women and girls, especially in times of crisis and conflict, growing poverty and inequality, and the devastating impact of climate change.”

Throughout Lyndall’s 30-year career in the non-profit sector, she has held a significant number of leadership roles across marketing, fundraising, and strategic guidance. Her most recent interim assignments include Elrha (Enhancing Learning and Research for Humanitarian Assistance), Action Aid International, and WWF-UK, as well as previously holding the position of Interim Director of Programme and Policy at CARE International UK.

Lyndall was the first Executive Director for Concern Worldwide UK, where she transformed a set of fundraising offices into a coherent and strategic UK charity with a budget of £16m, alongside responding to the 2004 Tsunami.

She was responsible for setting up the first campaign to raise income and support from the UK public for the liberation struggle led by the African National Congress against the Apartheid regime in South Africa. She also worked for a number of charities addressing the challenge of HIV/AIDS, including the Terrence Higgins Trust.

In addition to her impressive executive roles, Lyndall has non-executive governance experience. She chaired Votes for Freedom in support of the first ever Democratic election for the South African people, and the Sheila McKechnie Foundation and is currently on the Board of Greenpeace UK and the Refugee Council.

Nigel Chapman, Acting Chair, CARE International UK said:

“I’m delighted with our choice of Lyndall for Care’s next Chair. Lyndall has a strong track record as an executive in the INGO sector and will specifically offer the Board strategic guidance as well technical expertise in fundraising and marketing.

“Lyndall has previously helped organisations to build significant supporter bases, including leading ActionAid’s communications and fundraising integration during the Ebola crisis.

“She has also worked with a variety of Boards of Trustees both in the UK and outside and that governance experience will be very valuable as CARE faces up to profound challenges, like so many INGOs, in terms of defining its future strategy and attracting the resources to carry out its work in the world’s poorest countries.”
