Fraser Bell

Fraser is a Principal Consultant at Perrett Laver and is responsible for the firm’s Global Development Practice. This is a unique global practice group which is specifically focused upon the identification of first class leaders drawn extensively from the global south as well as the global north. This practice has seen Perrett Laver conduct searches within regions as diverse as South Asia, South East Asia, East, Central and West Africa, the Middle East, and South America. Fraser’s work in international development has included CEO and Director level appointments for clients such as Amnesty International, Oxfam, UNICEF, ActionAid, ONE and Tearfund. Fraser has extensive experience within international humanitarian aid work, previously having worked for six years managing regional and country programmes in Southern Sudan, Darfur and Northern Uganda.

Fraser holds an LLB in Law and an LLM in Public International Law from the University of Nottingham.

Fiona Carruthers

Fiona Carruthers is a Principal Consultant at Perrett Laver, specialising in senior appointments for UK Higher Education Institutions.  Fiona has considerable experience having spent the majority of her career in Executive Search working with a variety of organisations in both the public and private sectors.  For the last decade she has been focused on Higher Education having helped to establish the Practice for Heidrick and Struggles and more recently working at Odgers Berndtson.  She has advised on a range of Vice-Chancellor and executive  HE appointments and Heads of House, including the Vice-Chancellors of University of Reading, Kingston University, Open University; Master of Balliol College and Principals of Somerville and Green Templeton Colleges, Oxford; and the appointments of the Chief Executives of HEFCE and UUK. Fiona also has considerable experience of undertaking Non-Executive and Chair appointments in both the private and public sectors.  Recent examples include assisting Loughborough University and University of Bedfordshire with their appointments of Chair of Council.

Gareth Duxbury

Gareth is an Associate Consultant at Perrett Laver. He has significant experience across senior executive level and board appointments across higher education and not-for-profit sectors. He has recently advised the University of Oxford, the University of Sheffield and Cardiff University. In addition, Gareth has also advised Oxfam GB and the United Church Schools Trust/United Learning Trust.

Gareth holds a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Oxford. He has previously worked for HSBC and the University of Oxford. He is a follower of most sports, somewhat frustratingly a fan of Sheffield Wednesday and an enthusiastic cook.

David Field

David is a Principal Consultant at Perrett Laver and leads the Global Chairs Practice as well as working on a wide range of other senior appointments in higher education and associated sectors. He has advised on the appointment of numerous Vice-Chancellors/Presidents, PVCs/Vice-Presidents, Deans of Faculty, and professional service Directors for universities across the world. Alongside this, David has led the development both of Perrett Laver’s Global Chairs Practice, which finds leading research academics for the world’s top universities, and Perrett Laver’s rapidly growing work in China and Hong Kong.

David has a first class honours degree in Theology from Keble College, Oxford and a PhD (in English Puritan thought) from Selwyn College, Cambridge. He has published two books in historical theology and biblical commentary, as well as book chapters, articles, and reviews. He started his career teaching in Nigeria, subsequently serving as the minister of a church in Surrey and spending four years with what was then the UK’s leading search firm in higher education in the late nineties. Following eight years as a lecturer at a theological college, he returned to executive search, joining Perrett Laver in 2009.  Married to Sue and with three daughters, he is actively involved in his local church and, amongst other things, he has a love for seventeenth century history, current affairs, Everton FC, John Buchan novels and early mornings.

Emma Hart

Emma is a Consultant at Perrett Laver and has an extensive track record in higher education and not-for-profit search, developing partnerships with clients as diverse as RADA, Business in the Community and the Royal Society, and advising on numerous tier-one and other senior appointments. In the commercial sector she has worked broadly within media, business process outsourcing, logistics and finance. Emma is also responsible, as Chief Operating Officer, for managing the firm’s internal operations, including human resources and finance.

Emma holds a degree in Modern and Medieval Languages from the University of Cambridge. She speaks fluent French, conversational Spanish and basic Japanese.

Richard Gough

Richard is the Managing Director of Perrett Laver. He has extensive experience of leadership roles in the charity and commercial sectors.  He is a chartered accountant by training, and has worked with a range of other organisations as a Chair, Finance Director, Trading Director, Corporate Finance Manager and Investment Manager.  For the last 12 years he was part of the leadership team of Tearfund, a relief and development charity with 1500 staff, and income of over £65m.  Prior to this he worked in the telecoms and venture capital sectors.

Richard studied Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at the University of Oxford, and maintains a keen interest in political and economic affairs.  He is a sports enthusiast: playing tennis and skiing, as well as watching a range of sports.   He is the chair of a large charity, and on the executive committee of the Fairtrade Foundation.

Lucy Hayes

Lucy is a Senior Consultant at Perrett Laver and is responsible for the Education practice.  Her diverse experience covers leading independent schools, academies, educational charities, and private equity backed schools group. She has advised on the searches for the Chief Executives of UCAS, STEMNET and the United Church Schools Group, together with numerous senior leadership appointments in a variety of schools and academies. Lucy has also developed a focus on high profile appointments in the higher education sector, including the Vice-Chancellors of the Universities of De Montfort and East Anglia and the Chief Executive of the Equality Challenge Unit.

Lucy holds a degree in history from the University of Oxford and speaks basic German and Arabic.

Erik Jackson

Erik is an Associate Consultant at Perrett Laver and has worked on a number of executive appointments in the higher education, health and development sectors.  He has recently advised the London School of Economics, Oxford University, the University of Edinburgh and the University of Essex.

Erik holds an MSt in History from the University of Oxford and a BA in History from Menlo College in California, where he was class Valedictorian. Before joining the firm, he held the position of Business Development Manager for the international political consulting firm Oxford Analytica. He enjoys politics and is a fan of all sports, having previously volunteered as a youth sports coach.

Simon Laver

Simon is one of Perrett Laver’s co-founders. His diverse experience in senior level executive search includes CEO and Board-level appointments in higher education, international development, the voluntary sector, life sciences and financial services. Simon has recently advised the University of Oxford, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Oxfam GB and Imperial College London. He previously worked for many years as a senior partner within one of the largest global search groups, where he was Secretariat with responsibility for supporting business development and international growth. He also founded and led the global life sciences practice group.

Simon holds a first class degree from the University of Oxford and an MBA from the London Business School (including a semester at the Tuck School, Dartmouth College). Simon is also Trustee and former Chair of the Viva Network, a Trustee and Chair of the International and Advocacy Committee of Tearfund and an advisor to the University of Oxford’s McDonald Centre for Theology, Ethics and Public Life. In 2008 he was named by BusinessWeek on its list of the 'World's 100 Most Influential Headhunters.'

Ewen McAlpine

Ewen is a Senior Consultant at Perrett Laver and has an extensive track record of senior level assignments within the global development sector. Since joining Perrett Laver, Ewen has led on appointments for organisations focussing on human rights campaigning, humanitarian response, sustainable development, access to finance, and private sector growth. Recent clients ActionAid International, Amnesty International, Childfund Alliance, the Humanitarian Accountability Partnership, Merlin, ONE, Opportunity International, Oxfam, Tiri and WorldVision International.

Ewen holds a BA in English Literature from Princeton University. Following working with youth in the Caribbean and Africa, Ewen helped lead the Care Company and the Hope Center, both in Washington DC, and ran the Office of the Chairman and the Sales and Marketing Task Force for the international political consulting firm Oxford Analytica.

Clementine McKinley

Clementine is Head of Operations at Perrett Laver and oversees the internal operations, including recruitment, training and development, human resources and finance.  Clementine also holds the position of Head of Project Management and Administration and has over five years project management experience, during which time she was responsible for Perrett Laver’s work on multiple Vice-Chancellor searches for universities, alongside a wide array of CEO and Board appointments across many organisations in both the private and public sector.

Clementine holds a BA in History and Politics from Oxford Brookes University and enjoyed a year abroad studying in the United States. Outside work she is also a Girl Guide Leader and maintains a keen interest in American politics.

Dan Perrett

Dan is one of Perrett Laver’s co-founders. His areas of expertise in senior level executive search include CEO and Board-level appointments in retail, FMCG, financial services and higher education, and he has also been a speaker at the annual conference of the Association of Executive Search Consultants (AESC). Dan has recently advised the London School of Economics and the WWF Luc Hoffman Institute.

He previously worked for many years as a senior partner within one of the largest global search groups, and also spent a year as Chief Operating Officer leading the recruitment, human resources and resource management functions of a client organisation. Dan holds a first class honours degree and an MPhil in Economics and Politics of Development from the University of Cambridge. In 2008 he was named by BusinessWeek on its list of the 'World's 100 Most Influential Headhunters.'

Anna Smith

Anna is Head of the Research Team at Perrett Laver and has responsibility for all research operations. In addition to team recruitment, HR and training, she has also led the research on a large number of CEO and Board level appointments across the public and private sectors.

Anna holds a degree in Hispanic Studies from the University of Birmingham and worked at Deloitte before joining Perrett Laver.

Jill Stewart

Jill is a Senior Consultant at Perrett Laver and leads the firm’s UK voluntary sector practice. Her diverse experience covers a number of private equity ventures, alongside CEO and Board appointments across many organisations in both the private and public arenas. Recent clients include Teach First, Oxfam GB, The Prostate Cancer Charity, UNICEF UK and Business in the Community. She has also been responsible for Perrett Laver’s work with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG). Jill is a member of the company’s Corporate Responsibility Team and organises employee volunteering across the firm.

Jill holds an MA in International Relations from the University of St Andrews. She has lived and worked in Japan and spent her early career in the UK charity sector. She is a trustee of Wandsworth Youth Enterprise Centre.

Zara Wright

Zara is a Senior Consultant at Perrett Laver, who has an extensive track record of senior level assignments with a number of partner clients within the retail and consumer goods arena. Her experience also extends to the higher education sector, where she has worked on the appointments of the Vice-Chancellors of the Universities of Plymouth and Northumbria. More recently, Zara has developed a profile in international development searches and has worked on several senior-level appointments at large and influential NGOs. She has recently advised Heriott-Watt University, the University of Surrey and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.

Zara holds a degree in Music from the University of Oxford. Prior to joining Perrett Laver she trained as a Commercial Marketing Executive with WH Smith. She is an accomplished musician and continues to perform with a number of orchestras.
