Royal College of Music appoints new Director 4 Oct 2004

The Royal College of Music, one of the leading music conservatoires in the world has announced the appointment of its next Director. Professor Colin Lawson will take up the post on 1st September 2005, when he will succeed Dame Janet Ritterman, who will then have been Director of the RCM for twelve years.

RCM Council Chairman, Sir Anthony Cleaver, says 'Professor Lawson combines high standing as a musician with an impressive academic career. We are delighted that he has agreed to join us at the RCM at such a key stage in its history.'
Colin Lawson adds 'I am thrilled to have this opportunity to lead the RCM as we face the many challenges of musical life in the 21st century. We shall be developing new and exciting ways of fostering musical talent, building on the RCM's worldwide reputation for innovation.'
