Perrett Laver is delighted to be working with Singapore Management University on the appointment of their new Provost.
A premier university in Asia, the Singapore Management University (SMU) is internationally recognised for its world-class research and distinguished teaching. Established in 2000, SMU’s mission is to generate leading-edge research with global impact and produce broad-based, creative and entrepreneurial leaders for the knowledge-based economy. SMU invites applications for the role of Provost after the announcement that Professor Rajendra Srivastava will be stepping down as Provost and Deputy President at the end of August 2015.
The Provost is the educational officer normally responsible for the conduct, co-ordination and quality of the University’s Academic Programmes and for their future development. S/he acts as Chief Academic Officer and assumes the role of Acting President in the absence of the President. The Provost closely assists the President in taking SMU forward with a clear vision, and plays a key role in the implementation of SMU Vision 2025. S/he must have the ability to exercise key oversight over all academic initiatives, centres, laboratories and institutes and work closely with the administrative leadership of SMU (Senior Vice President and Vice- Presidents) in setting the overall academic priorities for SMU and allocating the funds necessary to move these priorities forward.
The successful candidate will bring a personal record of achievement in research as befits one of the world’s leading management and social science universities, along with a wide range of managerial skills and experiences, developed within large and complex organisations. Able to discern, clarify and crystalise the academic mission and strategy for SMU over the next 5-10 years, the successful candidate will inspire SMU’s staff to work together to deliver exceptional outcomes in education and research.
