Doug was appointed to ASDA as their Strategy Director. He had previously spent several years as head of McKinsey’s UK retail practice, before becoming Founder and Chief Executive of Blueheath, an internet-enabled stockless wholesaler. Doug graduated from Cambridge with a BA in Maths before completing a PhD in Theoretical Computer Science at the University of Edinburgh.
Two things took me to ASDA. First, it was the opportunity to join a fantastically strong management team - a real opportunity to learn and develop through working with some great people. Second, and critically, ASDA is a company with a very clear purpose, "making goods and services more affordable for everyone". I find both inspiring and motivating. Day in day out this helps guide what we do and helps us feel good about doing it. On both counts it's been a fabulous move for me and I can't think of anywhere I'd rather be.
ASDA is one of the UK’s largest companies and part of the world’s biggest retailer, Wal-Mart. Passionate about offering everyday value to every customer, their straightforward and non-hierarchical culture has over the years helped them to attract some of the most high impact leaders in modern retail and beyond.
